Fall 2009 Callout

Now that school has started once again, PLUG is gearing up for an active semester filled with exciting activities.  If you’d like to be involved in planning out this semester, I will be holding an office hour in the PLUG office (LWSN B128) on Thursdays from 6-7pm. I hope that the office hour can eventually evolve into a regular meeting time if possible.

Our callout will be on Thurs, Sept. 10 at 7pm in BRNG 1230. Free pizza and drinks!

Thanks to everyone who came to the callout, it is great to see people interested in the club and actively participating.

Topics Discussed:

Earhart Linux/Open-Source Presentation

  • Tuesday, February 10th at 8:15pm in the Earhart Residence Hall rec lounge.
  • Presentation will be general information about open-source software

Regular Meeting Times

  • Second and fourth Tuesdays of every month
  • First event will be the Earhart presentation
  • Time to be finalized, will either be 7 or 8pm

IRC Help Hours

  • Every Wednesday 7-9pm
  • General help or discussion time

Starting/Contributing to an Open-Source Project

  • We are looking into this possibility currently
  • Open to suggestions from members

PAL2.0

  • We will update the PAL instructions page to fix formatting issues and to simplify the instructions
  • Looking into building a script for streamlining the use of wpa_supplicant

Spring Planning Meeting

We had a planning meeting tonight on our IRC channel. We planned out a few things for the semester including our upcoming callout.

Topics discussed:

Spring Callout: Planned for Tuesday February 3rd at 7PM, location to be announced.
Regular Meeting Schedule: We will hold regular meetings every two weeks.
Meeting Topics:

  • Running Windows applications using Wine
  • IPv6 in Linux
  • Open-source replacements for Active Directory and Exchange
  • Present your favorite open source project

Officer Elections: Tentatively planned for April, exact details to be determined at a later date.
